Britain and Germany are past the point. They bet the farm on wind power and they lost.
Now they are plunging into fuel poverty and recession, propped up by imports and practicing extreme demand management by shedding power-intensive industries.
Just simple commonsense tells you that net zero and dependence on intermittent energy is insane. It trying to solve a non existent problem.
But whe will we see the coalition embrace ditching net zero and advocating fossil fuels as the base load as well as some nuclear. Not entirely convinced of the nuclear option. It seems an expensive replacement for coal and gas and a sort of Don Quixote tilting at windmills.
No place on the grid for intermittent energy. Recite your ABC.
A. Input to the grid must continuously match the demand.
B. The continuity of wind and solar input fails on nights with little or no wind.
C. The amount of storage required to bridge the gaps is not feasible or affordable.
And beware of the critical point when there is not enough reliable power to get through a windless night.

So are we. Just read the newspapers.
